A very fast growing, short lived, erect shrub. Useful for establishing a revegetation project. Fixes nitrogen in soils, colonises after disturbance. Quite a dense shrub, useful for screening.

Foliage resembles a kangaroo footprint, hence the name. Soft dark green leaves to 38cm.

Large purplish flowers 3-5cm followed by ovoid shaped fruit. Known as a ‘bush tomato’ it’s fruit once ripe (Orange) is edible. When unripe (green) do not eat as it is harmful.

Can be distinguished from it’s close relative S. aviculare by its notched petals.

Conditions: Moderate to well drained soils. Full sun, semi- shade to dappled shade.
